The Arbyrd City Council recently sent a letter of invitation to a representative from Pemiscot-Dunklin Electric Cooperative to attend the city council meeting on Monday. The electric cooperative has yet to respond to the invitation and did not have representation at the Monday meeting.
According to City Clerk Erma Branum, the council has received voiced concerns from community members about the billing cycles and rates with the city's new electric company. The invitation to the meeting was delivered so the council could discuss these issues and receive more information from the cooperative, Branum noted.
The council meeting was hosted on Monday without the presence of Mayor Lonnie Gibson, Jr., or Police Chief Mitch Skelton. The council continued without these individuals to approve several items on the agenda.
The alderman approved the motion to complete one project per week concerning the sewer issues at 322 Frisco, according to Branum. Also, the council approved the installation of new pumps at the location.
Branum said that Smith and Company had returned with a new bid to the city for the cost of the lead test. The new bid was approved by the council at the cost of $6,500.
Other items that were approved included the purchase of a John Deere Lawn Mower at the cost of $3,000 following trade in, the approval of contracting Roto Rooter to correct blockage in the sewer system located at the city lagoon, and the approval of receiving new bids on the city backhoe.
