Two Arbyrd city council members are up for re-election in the upcoming months.

The 2009 regular election will be held to elect a North Ward Alderman, currently Jessica Zolman, along with a South Ward Alderman, currently Robert Burgess. Both of these positions will be elected to a two year term by the city of Arbyrd.

Along with the election news, the council met on Monday to discuss the plumbing problems in Arbyrd, stating that they are due to the equipment being out of date. The city council will work during the next few weeks to develop a plan to correct the situation.

Another discussion was centered around the Arbyrd fire department. The department stated that there had already been five fires this month involving their crew. Two of the fires took place in Arbyrd while the others were assistance given to surrounding towns of Cardwell and Senath.

The city has begun the process of purchasing a shed. This shed will be used by the fire department for storage of equipment that is necessary to do department tasks. The shed will be helpful providing easy access to the fire department. The current system requires certain individuals be present and makes equipment inaccessible while certain individuals are out of town, according to the fire chief. The council hopes to achieve a grant in order to purchase the shed.

The council will begin to look into grants for application, in order to hopefully make the purchase.
